Know Your Place Worcester
Know Your Place Worcester is a digital heritage mapping resource to help you to explore your area online through historic maps, photographs and linked information. It is based on material from the Worcester City Historic Environment Record, the database of all known historic and archaeological sites, buildings and monuments within the city.
Know Your Place provides unprecedented online access to a range of historic data, but more importantly provides a place where users can add information about your local area, building a rich and diverse community map of local heritage for everyone. It’s free to use and anyone can add to the map.
Know Your Place Worcester was developed as part of the Worcester Life Stories project (a collaboration between Worcester City Council and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust), built by Bristol City Council and supported by volunteers from the Changing Face of Worcester project team.
Worcester Life Stories is a collaborative project bringing local people together through shared stories of the City of Worcester. It is led by Worcester City Council and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, with funding thanks to National Lottery players.
Life Stories Herefordshire and Worcestershire, hosted by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust has been co-produced with the public through online workshops, alongside the developers VerseOne. People will be able to create and share their own life story. Developing life stories promotes wellbeing and inclusion, especially for older people and people living with dementia. Identified themes such as sport or nature will be available in easily accessible packs allowing people to come together over shared memories and experience.
Watch out for events, exhibitions and a published book of photographs and memories between now and 2022.
